50% Android Devices Potentially infiltrated Malware and Hacker

Less than two months ago, Duo Security never released Android app called X-Ray. This application has a function to look for flaws that could potentially give root access to your device from malicious apps users. Since it was first launched, the company has been collecting more than 20,000 Android devices worldwide. Preliminary results indicate there are more than half of Android devices around the world have weaknesses that have not been patched, so it can be used by hackers or malicious applications.

Application X-Ray only perangkan assess how weak you are, instead of scanning a malicious application such as antivirus applications. X-Ray can identify weaknesses that can still be used to take over full control of mobile phone users. These results encourage the operators and device manufacturers to close and fix security hole in Android platform. Duo Security notes that 'mobile devices are often vulnerable for months and even years. "

Android has a large market share in mobile phones, and not be a surprise if the 'attackers' are very keen to make it as a target OS applications and fields looking for weaknesses. Unfortunately, Google relies on its partners about when to give an update to Android phones and tablets.

Now, one of the web developer more public attention about the security risks that may occur in popular instant messaging service WhatsApp for Android. This vulnerability may result in intercepts a message or sending a false message.

WhatsApp is one of instant messaging (IM) and the current popular record traffic of 10 billion messages per day. Its popularity is certainly inviting hackers to make it as the main target.

Sam Granger via Hacker News say that WhatsApp for Android is not safe, because it uses your phone number as the username and the IMEI number (which is encrypted with MD5) as the password. International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number used to identify a particular type of phone.

Application WhatsApp for iPhone version does not have this vulnerability. But Granger did not know whether the version of Windows Mobile and BlackBerry versions are also using the same method.

The information disseminated Granger is not new information. WhatsApp Wikipedia already says that the service is using the phone number and IMEI. Pieces of information are inviting the hackers unlock 'another gap'.

This is not the first time WhatsApp criticism on security issues. In May 2011, also found the security holes that can be hijacked account. WhatsApp developers themselves have been told about the 'gap' is the latest application for Android, but not about providing a statement.

NFC technology

A new technology is embedded into the operating system Android and MeeGo it can be easily hijacked by hackers. A researcher in a way to practice the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas.
By exploiting security flaws in standard Near Field Communication (NFC), a hacker named Charlie Miller smartphone can take over control of the handsets made by Samsung and Nokia. The attack works by placing a phone within a few centimeters of a chip the size of a quarter, or by tapping into mobile phones that have NFC. Code on the handset is transmitted to the target phone to move through the air, then run the file or to open a web page in which there is a malicious program, or in other cases can be invade into the operating system itself.
This exploitation is practiced on a Nexus S device that uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the Galaxy Nexus running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. While not known if using Android Jelly Bean. In addition to Android devices, the demo is also done on the Nokia N9.
NFC technology is a feature that allows people to share files, business cards, website links quickly, or make a Bluetooth connection with PC, speakers or other devices. When the NFC is enabled, all files submitted will be automatically accepted, and this makes the malicious code can more easily enter the target device. However, it should NFC only runs when there are other devices that are attached or with a very close distance.
'NFC can be very rewarding but can also be misused, "said Miller. "These findings open you more to think about NFC technology, 'he added.
